Sound
Therapy
You may have heard of the term Music is Healing. We firmly believe that at Hertz & Hearts.
Hearing a song that touches you when you were in pain, in grief, in love, joyously happy, the music connects with you, soothes you, uplifts you and it’s as though the words of the song we’re written for you.
How does Sound Therapy Work?
Sound Therapy uses sound, music and specialist instruments played in therapeutic ways, combined with deep self-reflection techniques to improve health and wellbeing
You are over 60% water as a human being, within your bones, muscles, organs and blood. Sound and different frequencies affect water, causing the water to resonate with the frequency heard. The sounds of the instruments played in a session along with the safe, comfortable environment allows you to fully relax, lowering your brainwave frequency (also known as an altered state of consciousness) lower brain waves such as alpha, theta or delta are evidenced to reduce stress, reduce anxiety, boost creativity and problem solving, aid sleep, relieve pain and act as a natural anti-depressant. The therapeutic benefits of being in prolonged periods of deep relaxation are constantly being researched uncovering further benefits for pain and healing.
Lisa, our sound therapist, is trained and accredited in The British Academy of Sound Therapy (BAST) method of sound therapy. This combines carefully considered therapeutic sound techniques which have been show to affect physiology, neurology and psychology with a form of reflective enquiry (a kind of questioning). This approach has been shown to be very effective at improving health and wellbeing/ BAST therapists specialise in combining instruments in a specific way to influence brainwave frequencies, enabling a person to enter an Altered State of Consciousness (ASC) similar to very deep relaxation or medication. In this state, many different therapeutic processes occur.

What Happens at a Group Sound Bath?
A Sound Bath is a relaxation session using sound, in general in a small group of 5-10 people. It is held by a trained practitioner who provides guidance at the start and end of the session. This involves lying down on a mat with a cushion and a blanket to be comfortable. You can sit on a chair or in another comfortable position if lying down at floor level isn’t possible. The therapist will use live sound using a combination of Himalayan singing bowls, crystal bowls and gongs and therapeutic percussion.
There are no baths involved or getting in any water, the idea is being ‘bathed in sound’.
