Reiki
Reiki is the Japanese word for ‘Universal Life Energy’.
The word ‘Reiki’ comes from the Japanese words ‘Rei’ meaing universal and ‘Ki’ meaning life energy.
Reiki is a holistic type of energy healing. Energy can stagnate in the body where there has been physical injury or even emotional pain. In time, these energy blocks can cause illness. Being a form of healing, it treats the source of any disease – emotional, mental, physical and spiritual. Simple and profound, it comforts, soothes, relieves pain, speeds physical healing, stops bleeding and releases emotional trauma from the present and the past. Reiki activates the bodies’ self-healing mechanism.
Energy medicine aims to help the flow of energy and remove blocks in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure. Reiki practitioners support improving the flow of energy around the body to enable relaxation, relieve pain, speed healing and reduce other symptoms of illness.
Mikao Usui developed Usui Reiki Ryoho, the most current form of Reiki, in 1922. However, people have practiced Reiki for about 2,500 years. People also refer to Reiki as palm healing or hands-on healing. In the West, this name is given to a form of healing that utilises this energy to enhance well-being, wholeness and harmony.
The Reiki symbol has a number of meanings:
+ Universal Life Energy
+ Soul Energy
+ Mysterious Spirit
What Happens at a Reiki Session?
Reiki practitioners channel healing power through thei hands which helps the body to heal itself. No extra tools or products are required and it can be used as part of every other method of healing. It re-balances the human energy levels, strengthens the immune system and calms the mind.
Reiki is gentle and non-ivasive and it never causes any harm. You will lie down fully clothed on a therapist bed and be covered over with a blanket (or however you feel comfortable in your own home if the session is a distance appointment). There will be relaxing music playing, the therapist will position their hands above different points over your head, face and body.
